| It is a terrible thing to happen, but your dog could somehow, someday, get lost or stolen. For safety's sake, every dog should wear a collar with an identification tag that is clearly marked with your name and phone number. A collar tag is the first thing that most people look for on a dog they have found. But, if the dog should slip out of his collar -- or worse the dog is stolen--how do you identify your beloved pet?
Permanent identification is accomplished with a MICROCHIP, a grain of rice-sized device encoded with a unique and alterable identification number. Registration with AKC's Companion Animal Recovery (CAR) organization of your pet's unique identification number cost $25.00 for lifetime and includes a collar tag with a toll free phone number.
A microchip may be read through the use of a scanner used by many veterinarians and animal shelters. Using the toll free number provided, the person reading the tag may contact CAR with the animal's identification number
If the pet is enrolled in the program, AKC Companion Animal Recovery will call the owner immediately. If the owner cannot be reached, an alternate contact or you veterinarian will be called. The owner will be asked to contact the finder to make arrangements to reclaim their pet.
YOUR PUPPY FROM GOLDEN ARROW KENNELS WILL NOT COME WITH A MICROCHIP IN PLACE. To get a microchip installed you will need to register the number with AKC at a cost of $25.00 plus an office call. Your own Vet can provide you with the needed information about the microchip
Should you and your pet ever be separated a microchip will increase your chances of being reunited. As of June 30, 2001, there have been 54,306 lost pets successfully reunited with their owners in the U.S. and abroad through the use of microchips and the CAR program.
